About Harihar Fort
The fort of Harihar lies in the Trimbakeshwar range. Harihar Fort is 1,120.44 meters (3,676 feet) above sea-level. The last 200 feet of the hike is a nerve-racking climb through steep rock cut stairs inclined at 80 degrees.
If you want more adventure then trek in rainy season which doubles up the adventure. In rainy season, step become slippery which add risks in your trek and regular trekkers likes the risks.
The distance from Nashik to Harihar Fort is around 40-50 Kms. Traveling by bike with friends added more fun. Recommended season to visit is winter (Nov-Feb), and if you can do visit during first rain its really awesome, with scenic surroundings greenery along the stretch and drizzling rain. Please carry food, water with you as there are no any hotels at remote place.
About Trek
There are two nearby places “Nirgudpada” and “Harshwadi”. Harshwadi little bit near than Nirgudpada from the fort. Follow google map to reach Nirgudpada or Harshwadi.
After you start your trek from Harshwadi, it takes around 1 to 1.5 hrs to reach base of the stairs and 1.5 – 2 hours from Nirgudpada to reach the base of the stairs. The trek till this point is fairly easy. The real ascent to the fort begins from here.
Way to Fort
Now you have to climb approx 200 steps to reach on top. The steps which 80 degree inclined, best thing is each step have cut in the rock for support. You need to carefully climb this section in the monsoon, preferably one by one.
After reaching the top of the steps you will come cross the first fort entrance door.
Proceed ahead you will see the again stairs that twist and turn to reach the second gate. Unlike first steps these steps are cut in the rock which having tunnel from which only one person can move ahead at a time.
Twist in trekking
You take 2 to 2.3hrs to reach on the top of the fort. You can see Basgad fort, Utwad mount, Bramhagiri Parvat from top of fort. There are some ponds and small temples on the top.
After exploring the fort, which takes around an hour, you can proceed back to the village through the same route. You need to be extremely careful while descending the steps. It is advisable to climb down facing the rock.
